SUSTAINABLE RESIDENCE

APEX provided complete professional Architectural/Engineering (A/E) services associated with the planning, design, preparation of construction documents and construction management of a proposed new residence and associated site design, on a vacant lot in Hamburg, NY. The proposed residence was approximately 2,800 gross square feet.

Sustainable “Green design” strategies were incorporated into the design to provide a building that is environmentally responsible as well as a healthy enjoyable place to reside or visit. A whole building approach to sustainability was utilized by recognizing key areas of building performance and incorporating as many strategies that the project budget would allow. Some specific sustainable strategies that are incorporated include: building/site orientation to maximize passive solar and natural ventilation strategies, day-lighting techniques with a balance of abundant windows with the thermal envelope considerations, utilization of responsible materials, the incorporation of high performance glazing and sun shades as well as increased thermal insulation.

The project was completed on schedule and within the established budget.
