APEX Architecture provided complete professional Architectural/Engineering (A/E) services associated with the planning, design, preparation of construction documents of a proposed affordable housing and associated site design of a sub-division. The proposed single-family residence is approximately 1,400 gross square feet.
This design is a prototype for SNHA Affordable Housing Program which is partially HUD funded. A contemporary design was incorporated to counteract any negative connotations of public housing. The simple geometric shape and efficient layout was utilized to maintain budget. SNHA intends to involve the Nation’s workforce training program for labor.
Sustainable “Green design” strategies were incorporated into the design. Some specific sustainable strategies that are incorporated include: utilization of responsible materials, the incorporation of high-performance glazing and increased thermal insulation.
Alternative options include a third bedroom, a more conventional gable roof line and ADA components.
